When I woke up this morning, it wasn't the blues, but a couple of nice message from =Sgtgrandpa, who offered me the use of any of his works without further asking, under the usual condition that I'd let him know if I had used any. He's involved in the =Wicked-LandScapes club, where I happened to be the 10.001th visitor (*roll my eyes*: "It's a SIGN...!!!: )
Well...
I haven't used anyone else's deviation so far, but this is someone who knows his Terragen, and Terragen is after all Terragen (free, so far the only 3D landscape app that gives me any decent results and a nice bunch of fans), so I went over to his page and looked. This 'ere deviation came out of it, based on his deviation Blessed Mountain [link] . I feel slightly guilty by obscuring the view to this by my own art, but on the other hand, you all have a good reason to go over and have a look at his work.
Tech Notes:
Background Blessed Mountain [link] by =Sgtgrandpa , done in Terragen;
* (on its turn based on a terrain map by devlethe-grey, I understand)
* I left the background untouched, out of respect for his work.
All my work is based on colours cloned from in the original work- as an experiment and because I felt it would help give a realistic feel; details in my work have been touched up with PSP7's retouch-darken, retouch-dodge, and retouch-saturate brushes though.
The face (done on a single layer, one hour of work) wasn't copied, traced or referenced from something - but I just let my brushes go and saw what came out of it. The blanket (2 hours) was done on five layers, with two separate layers for the ornaments. On the blanket I used PSP7's 'noise' and 'fur' effect, followed by quite a lot of afterwork, as usual, or it wouldn't do.
Apart from the background, no outside sources were used - everything done manual on my wacom pentablet in PSP7.
Alright, anyone who's not desperate for a silly caption please look the other way, spoiler here. My current favorite caption is:
"While the freezing mountain wind is blowing right through the crew's down jackets, actress Marae Tivrac professionaly changes her mischievous, gleeful smile into an expression that's more appropriate for the publicity still. The traditional costume doesn't just protect her from the mountain cold, after 12 years of playing the main character of Sklava Isavra ( 'In my worst nightmares I don't fear to be fired, but sold by the network' ), Nadirstan's longest running historical soap, she feels more at home in cumbersome authentic dress than in the jeans and couture for her spare hours in real life."

You're welcome, Sgtgrandpa. I didn't really choose it, it jumped at me and inspired me. And so far I haven't found that many 3D landscapes that are inspiring and available for further work by others.
